Prevent Costly Repairs in your home!

June 13, 2024

Preventative Maintenance is Important

Your HVAC system may actually be one of the single most expensive pieces of hardware that make up your home. And yet, for all that, many people ignore their furnace or A/C systems and treat them like indestructible, perpetual motion machines that will work forever.

But, like any complex piece of technology, that’s just not the case. That’s why it’s important for people to start thinking of their HVAC systems like they would a car or even their own bodies.

This is hardware that needs some regular care and maintenance, and if it doesn’t get it, it can mean a costly repairs later down the road. Fortunately, there are a few easy things you can do to make sure your environmental systems work the way they’re supposed to.

Get an Annual Inspection & Tune Up

You can’t just run your HVAC system all year long and not expect some wear and tear to take place, or some parts to require readjustment.  Just like an annual car tune up, an annual check-up and maintenance cycle for your HVAC system is tune-upimportant prolonged operational efficiency.  Just call an expert to come in and check everything over. They can do all the small maintenance that can find minor problems, then address them on the spot.  Months or years of neglect can let even small problems grow into large, threatening ones that will require a costly repair.

Keep the Outside Clear

An easy and essential bit of HVAC maintenance is inspecting the vents that your HVAC system uses outside your home: or the condenser of your A/C if you have a central air system clean the outdoor ac, of coarse it woudl be best to have a professional do this.  However, all cooling and heating systems require vents to purge the air you don’t want, or take in the air for processing. These vents will lead that air to the outside of your home.  If these important vent areas are blocked or no longer working properly, this will eventually lead to the damage to your HVAC system and may even put the health of residents at risk.  Always make sure vents are clear of leaves or other debris, and that clear airflow is established.

Replace Your Filter

Whether your HVAC system is just an air conditioner, or whether you have a furnace and central air in using the same ventilation system, the filter is an important part of your environmental system operation.  It traps the dirt and other contaminants to keep your air clear and safe in addition to being comfortable in your home.  Every quarter, you should always replace the filters in your HVAC system.  However, it certainly doesn’t hurt to inspect your filters every month see just how dirty they are. If they’ve gotten dirtier than usual, take the time to replace them early.  You can even save some time and convenience by buying filters in bulk so you don’t need to run to the store every time you need one.  Like I always say either buy a filter or be a filter you choose!
